  2.                           Using Distinctive Ring
  3.  
  4.    When you receive a call the telephone will ring in patterns (like an old
  5. party  line)  which the modem will recognise.  While you can have up  to  4
  6. different rings, commonly you have two, maybe three. They are RING A, B, C,
  7. and D, RING C is uncommon.
  8.      On a Zoom Faxmodem that supports Distinctive Ring (Ringmate), you  can
  9. use  AT '$$' commands to tell the modem how to react to each ring. You  can
  10. tell the modem to ignore RING A, let the software handle RING B, and answer
  11. RING D as data, for example.

  13. If the software does not recognise A or B after RING, the maximum number of
  14. Ringmate numbers is two. You set AT$$R1 which tells the modem to  recognise
  15. the  rings, but not to print the A B etc. You can set the modem  to  ignore
  16. RING  A, and then specify what it will do for RING B (or RING D). This  may
  17. be  telling  the modem to let the software handle the call, or  to  take  a
  18. certain action.
  19.      For  example:
  20.   AT$$R1$$A1$$B0  (don't print A-B, Ignore RING A, software answer RING B)
  21.   AT$$R1$$A7$$B1  (don't print A-B, Ignore RING B, A answer as Class-2 fax)

  23.      If  at least one software you are using will recognise the  additional
  24. paramter  of A B etc after the RING (RING A  RING B) then you may use  more
  25. than two ringmate numbers. You use $$R2 to print RING A or RING B etc.
  26.      Suppose uou want A: for your voice. B: voice/fax software C:BBS
  27.      The Voice/fax software will recognise RING B. BBS software will not.
  28.      Set your BBS software to answer on 3 or 4 rings (to let other software
  29.      do it's thing first if it's not RING D).
  30.   AT$$R2$$A1$$B0$$D4  (print A-B-D, Ignore A, Software takes B, D answers
  31.                        as Data w/full negotiation)
  32. or another setup:
  33.   AT$$R2$$A1$$B3$$D6   (print  A-B-D), ignore A, Answer B  2400 negotiate,
  34.                         Answer D class-1 Fax)

  36.      Depending on your needs and software, you'll have to try combos of the
  37. commands to what works for you.
